The Greenschool Committee and the Gardening Club enjoyed a workshop last Monday at the Rediscovery Centre. What an amazing place!  We started off with a whistle-stop tour of the building and got to see the fantastic “upcycling” being done there.  There’s some pretty cool fashion, some trendy furniture and lots of bicycles which have been revamped and are ready for action.  We walked across their metal bridge to their garden where herbs, fruit and veg are all growing. We tasted some edible nasturtiums and some fennel. Back in the centre, we learned about plastics in our environment and the damage caused to sea life.  We examined different kind of packaging and learned what we can recycle and what we cannot.  We looked at packaging on a family pack of cereal and compared this to the amount of packaging on the same volume of cereal when in “multipack”. That was shocking. We took a photo of this – you will see what we mean!!  Later we worked together to find ways to clear the plastics out of the seas. We had great fun.

Thank you to WEEE Ireland for sponsoring the workshop and to the Rediscovery Centre for sponsoring the coach there and back.

We had a super time.
